Blessed be God's people

The blessings of the chosen people

The Middle East conflict is been on the mouth of many people for years. It has had such importance that even the largest powers in the world have been involved from the beginning, though geographically they would not be related in normal circumstances. I really wonder why. Why is there such interest from many people from different regions in the world on Israel. Why so many people hate or love Israel?

Looking at the history, this has been a common factor, it’s not something new. The history of Israel has been surrounded by conflict and friction. And the present is not the exception. Some people desires Israel did not exist at all. It’s a common conception to depict The Jews as terrible hypocrite people. After knowing the Word of God I do realize how important Israel is been in the history of humanity, and despite of the paradigms, through the Israelites we have received the blessing of salvation.

The name of Israel comes Jacob (Ya’akov as per the Jewish tradition), the grandson of Abraham (Avraham) and Sarah, and son of Isaac (Yitz’chak). Last week we studied Genesis 17:19 and the implication of the lineage of how the seed of the Messiah was passed from Avraham to Yitz’chak. Genesis 25 relates that the descendants of Yitz’chak were a pair of twins, Esau (Esav) and Jacob (Ya’akov). It is also mentioned in Genesis that the twins would make two nations and that the weaker nation would have to serve the stronger. Esau was the first to be out of the wonmd, and he was more robust at birth than Jacob. Later in this chapter of Genesis, it is related how Esau sold his rights as the first born for a stew meal, and in fact it says that that showed how Esau did not appreciate his birthright. The birthright was quite important in these days. The first born was usually who would receive all or most of the inheritance of the father. We read in Genesis 27 the deceit that Jacob performed on his father, Isaac. Jacob deceived his father, impersonating his older brother, Esau. During this event, Isaac blessed Jacob (thinking he was in fact Esau). This blessing included the dew from heaven, the richness of the earth, and grain and wine in abundance. The blessing also cursed every nation who would curse Jacob, and would bless everyone who blesses you (Gen 27:28). Later we know, as per Genesis 35, 10 that The Lord changed Jacob’s name for Israel, and from his name we now the nation born in the mid 1900s. It’s important to realize how important it is to bless Israel. Some people believe that the reason why Colombia, my country, is been submitted under years of war and narco-traffic comes from the vote on the United Nations against the acceptance of Israel as a nation. We know today that Colombia accepts Israel as a nation, however Colombia is still submerged under the chaos.

So we know Yitz’chak and Yaa’kov are very important in God’s plan. Genesis 28:14 relates the promise of The Lord to Yaa’kov on regards to his descendants:
“Your descendants will be as numerous as the grains of dust on the earth. You will expand to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. By you and your descendants all the families of the earth will be blessed.”
Numbers 24:17 and 19confirmed so when saying:
“I see him, but not now; I behold him but not soon. A star will step forth from Jacob, a scepter will arise from Israel, to crush the corners of Moab and destroy all descendants of Set” […] 19 “From Yaa’kov will come someone who will rule and he will destroy what is left of the city”

People may debate the fact that these promised refer to Jesus. However, the Word of God is perfect, even though it took many years to fulfill these promises. First, Matthew 1:2 and Luke 3:34confirms that Jesus’s forefathers included Jacob. Close to the end of the bible, in the last chapter of Revelation, John writes the words of Jesus, He claimed that “I, Yeshua, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the messianic communities (the church). I am the Root and Offspring of David, the bright Morning Star. (Revelation 22:16).

We as adopted Sons’s of God have received this priviledge solely because God picked his people, Israel, to fulfill his plan of Salvation through Jesus The Christ. He made himself a man, as a Jew, and through Jesus he extended the promised blessings to all nations. Blessed be Israel.
