What does Islam say about the beliefs of the first followers of Jesus?

Sunnih muslim scholars through history  have taught that the true followers of Jesus believed he was only a man; just a prophet; not divine at all. They also teach that later a dissident  group rose teaching Jesus was divine. Some of those scholars assert that Paul of Tarsus was the one who misguided the large majority.  Some of these Muslim scholars taught the followers of Jesus had disputes all along about his deity.  Those scholars argue this is evident by the many theological controversies which persisted during the first three or four centuries of the Christian era. They argue that the true followers of Jesus remained in the shadows until the arrival of the Qur’an through the prophet Muhammad.   History evidence plays a decisive role on supporting or disproving the claims of the Qur'an, at least in this case. However, one would have to challenge the claim that the Qur'an is the word of God if it is misaligned with historical facts. My question to Mu...

Is ISIS following instructions or inventing an Ideology?

Study on what extremists use for ideology   Most moderate Muslims I know agree with this statement. However, one has to wonder, what's Isis preaching, and where do they get their doctrine from? After the events occurred in Jakarta on January 14th, I heard and saw lots of rejection from the majority of moderate Muslims. Some said, for example that they can't believe how they kidnap and use sex slaves. One person even told me "The prophet would have never allowed it". This is not new. Even before the attacks in Jakarta, people rejected ISIS actions: http://m.thejakartapost.com/news/2014/09/01/your-letters-the-hijacking-islam.html It angers me to see the exceptionally brutal methods used by the group bearing the Islamic symbol. It’s nothing more than identity theft. The mass beheading is sickening. The capture of the beautiful young Yazidi women for God knows what purpose by those sick men is nauseating. These terrorists have brought shame and disgrace to humanity. They ...

The Belief that Messiah had to be Divine predated the time of Jesus

Image
Some skeptics and contradictors of Christianity claim that the Deity of Christ was an invention of people, something that progressively developed years after the time of Jesus on earth. I would like to provide evidence that this is not the case, and that in fact, the belief that Messiah is God pre-dated the incarnation of Jesus.   My argument in this article is based on the Book of Isaiah, a prophetic book which clearly speaks about the Son Of God, as I have documented in this other article. However, this time I'd like to present what the believers before the time of Jesus understood this prophetical book spoke about.   It’s important to highlight that the view of Rabbinical Jews today about Isaiah, and in specific of Isaiah 53 is not aligned with the view of Orthodox Judaism, especially in the first century BCE. To demonstrate this, I'd like to review what the Targums, and in specific to the Targum Johnathan say.   Targu...

Quran 10:92-94 Is not a clear prophecy; in fact it is not a prophecy.

A study of the Muslim apologetic claim that the Pharaoh's body discovery is fulfillment of Surah 10:90-92 indicates that the claim is flawd. The following issues are found: 1. The alleged prophecy is not absolutely clear: The mummy was not found on the Red Sea Shores and there is still division among scholars about identifying who the Exodus' Pharaoh was. 2. The salt crystals in the mummy does not indicate the Pharaoh died from drowning. 3. The contents of Surah 10:90-92 does not document previously hidden knowledge. Furthermore, Surah 10:90-92 is not the earliest historical writing claiming that the Pharaoh of Exodus drowned and later on was recovered. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was sharing the other day with my muslim friend several passages within the Torah referring  the person of Jesus. My Muslim friend argued that the prophecies that I was referring to were not very clear, and could correspond of a conspi...

Unitarian Questions: No where in the Bible Jesus says I'm God, Worship Me...

Summary This article presents a Study of Hebrews 1, and highlights the portions which support the view of the divinity of Jesus. When looking the context and contents of Hebrew 1 it's found that: What God says about the Son, God hasn't told to anyone else. God says that the Son is God God says that He Annointed God. The context of the verse indicates that The Father is who anointed the Son, and both the Father and the Son are presented as God. God says to the Son that in the beginning The Son created it all, The Son is creator, hence he cannot be created. The Son exist from the beginning and He will not perish. That means God is saying that The Son is eternal. -------------------------------- In a forum a while ago, I engaged on a discusion about Unitarianism vs Trinitarianism. The acquantance I was interacting with brought forward this argument: If jesus is God then he played the fool because God didn't say he was God and God is talking about how he can do...

Speaking of Original Sin Lead Me To Find Again About Grace

Summary Skeptics believe that the Bible is not trustworthy. The concept of Original Sin is used by skeptic apologists to discredit the reliability of the Bible and its message. Several times Original Sin is misrepresented of misunderstood. An evaluation weighing in the balance all of the contents of the Bible allows having clarity of why people in the past came with this concept. Common misunderstandings or misrepresentations related to original sin are: Original Sin teaches that all humans are seen by God as sinners as a consequence of Adam's sin. And this is unfair. Skeptics contend the fact that if God had made us sinners it would be also unfair for Him to expect us to be non-sinners. Some skeptics point to apparent contradictions with the definition of Original Sin and other verses in the Bible to discredit the reliability of the Bible. In this article I hope presenting a Biblical view on the subject, and through it: 1.       Show that...
